Mar Hernández (1984) es una artista plástica de nacionalidad española, nacida en Madrid pero muy vinculada a la región de Murcia por sus orígenes familiares y a Italia desde que realizó una residencia de un año en la Academia de España en Roma, donde colaboró durante varios años con la galería romana White Noise. Actualmente forma parte de los artistas representados de la galería Suburbia Contemporary, situada en Barcelona.
Mar Hernández cursa sus estudios de Bellas Artes y Máster Arte, Creación e Investigación en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, además de realizar el Máster en Medios de Impresión Gráfica, Ilustración y Acuñación artística en la Fundación Casa de la Moneda, Madrid y el Máster en Formación del Profesorado (Artes Plásticas) en la Facultad de Educación,(UCM).
Su obra ha sido seleccionada y premiada en diversos certámenes de Grabado, Dibujo y Fotografía. En el 2010 obtiene el Primer Premio Nacional de Dibujo Provincia de Guadalajara, en 2011 Mención de Honor en el Certamen Internacional de Grabado Carmen Arozena organizado por Brita Prinz Arte, en 2012 recibe el Premio del Certamen de Arte Gráfico Jóvenes Creadoresde la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando (Calcografía Nacional). En el 2013 obtiene la beca MAEC-AECID de la Academia de España en Roma, en 2015 una de las Becas Artísticas de la Casa Velázquez, en 2016 fue invitada por Calcografía Nacional (Madrid) para participar en Xu Yuan International Artist-in-residence Program, organizado por el Instituto Cervantes de Pekín, China. Todas estas menciones, premios y becas han supuesto un importante impulso a su formación y trayectoria artística y le han ofrecido la oportunidad de mostrar su trabajo en exposiciones individuales y colectivas, en lugares como Holanda, Italia, China, Portugal y España, consolidando una sólida trayectoria con su presencia en diversas ferias nacionales e internacionales de Arte Contemporáneo.
Existen obras suyas en colecciones particulares en España, Portugal, Italia, Bélgica y Holanda y colecciones públicas como la Colección H.E.F Juan Entrecanales, Biblioteca Nacional, Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando (Madrid), Ministerio de Asuntos exteriores y cooperación, LAM (Holanda) y Xu Yuan Internacional Printmaking center, (Pekín).
STATEMENT
Mar Hernández investiga las transformaciones de los espacios interiores y domésticos, estableciendo la memoria como vínculo entre lo físico y lo mental. La artista moldea nuevos lugares donde se ha roto la evolución lineal e histórica del tiempo; en sus obras pueden convivir en un mismo momento infinitas existencias y múltiples dimensiones cronológicas. Su investigación gira en torno a los espacios abandonados.
Estos lugares viven en un momento de espera, como si hubieran estado en pausa y siempre al borde de la desaparición. La obra surge del encuentro entre dibujo y fotografía: la reproducción digital no solo tiene la función de investigación preliminar, representa también el simulacro del propio espacio, la base de su restauración lograda con el nivel de dibujo.
La obra plástica de Mar Hernández tiene una clara voluntad de expandirse en el espacio, trascender los límites tradicionales del Dibujo y renovar tanto su lenguaje, como sus procesos.
Conceptualmente está muy vinculada a la Ruina Contemporánea, que utiliza como punto de partida para dar un nuevo sentido a las huellas del paso del tiempo y reconstruir una memoria alternativa del lugar.

Mar Hernández (1984) is a Spanish visual artist, born in Madrid but closely linked to the region of Murcia by her family origins and to Italy since she made a one-year residency at the Academy of Spain in Rome, where she worked for several years with the gallery White Noise. She is currently represented by the Suburbia Contemporary gallery in Barcelona.
Mar Hernández studies Fine Arts and Master’s Degree in Art, Creation, and Research at the Complutense University of Madrid, in addition to completing the Master’s Degree in GraphicPrinting Media, Illustration, and Artistic Coinage at the Casa de la Moneda Foundation, Madrid, and the Master in Teacher Training (Plastic Arts) at the Faculty of Education (UCM).
Her work has been selected and awarded in various Engraving, Drawing and Photography competition. In 2010 she obtained the First National Prize of Drawing Province of Guadalajara, in 2011 Honorable Mention in the International Engraving Contest Carmen Arozena organized by Brita Prinz Arte, in 2012 received the Prize of the Contest of Graphic Art Young Creators of theRoyal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando (Calcografía Nacional). In 2013 she obtained the MAEC-AECID scholarship from the Academy of Spain in Rome, in 2015 one of the ArtisticScholarships of the Casa Velázquez, in 2016 she was invited by Calcografía Nacional (Madrid) to participate in Xu Yuan International Artist-in-residence Program, organized by the Cervantes Institute in Beijing, China.
All these mentions, awards, and scholarships have been an important boost to her training and artistic career and have offered her the opportunity to show her work in individual and collective exhibitions in places such as the Netherlands, Italy, China, Portugal, and Spain, consolidating a solid trajectory with its presence in diverse national and international fairs of Contemporary Art. Her works are located in private collections in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Belgium, and Holland and public collections such as the Collection H.E.F Juan Entrecanales, National Library, Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando (Madrid), Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, LAM (Netherlands) and Xu Yuan International Printmaking center, (Beijing).
STATEMENT
Mar Hernández investigates the transformations of interior and domestic spaces, establishing memory as a link between the physical and the mental. The artist shapes new places where the linear and historical evolution of time has been broken; in her works, infinite existences and multiple chronological dimensions can coexist in the same moment. Her research revolves around abandoned spaces. These places live in a moment of waiting as if they had been on pause and always on the verge of disappearance. The work arises from the encounter between drawing and photography: the digital reproduction not only has the function of preliminary research, it also represents the simulation of the space itself, the basis of its restoration achieved with the drawing level.
Mar Hernández’s plastic work has a clear desire to expand in space, transcend the traditional limits of Drawing, and renew both its language and its processes. Conceptually it is very linked to the Contemporary Ruin, which uses as a starting point to give a new meaning to the traces of the passage of time and reconstruct an alternative memory of the place.
